«The TRES collection proves that good things come in threes» The ancient Latin phrase «omne trium perfectum,» which roughly translates to «everything that comes in threes is perfect,» describes and foreshadows the collection Tres, designed for Saba Italia, the offering comprises coffe and side tables characterized by the reoccurring theme of three found in the cylindrical legs, rounded corners, and available finishes. The sculptural volumes play a supporting role in outfitting a space with curiously beautiful and unexpected objects while blurring the lines between function and art.

In this project for Sancal we reinvented the Canto tables in a limited edition series that challenges the limits between design and art. CANTO Art Edition is based on a reflexion: what is the line that separates design from art and does this line really exist at the moment of creation? In this collection, MUT explores this blurred border by artistically intervening a functional piece, transforming an everyday object such as a table into 12 unique pieces.

Design of the awards for the second edition of the ROOM Design Awards. A design inspired by the spinning top. A simple and universal entertainment that transcends generations and appeals directly to the emotions experienced in our past. In terms of construction, we always like to push materials to their limits, to see how far we can push them and what they can tell us. To create the award, we have relied on Krion® by Porcelanosa Grupo.

In our studio, located in «el Barrio del Carmen», visitors enter a space where design comes to life through an installation that fuses the fragile with the robust. True to its name, the work connects the delicacy of glass with the solidity of the sculptural Canto family. Fractured panes of glass from car windows act as pedestals, recreating a dreamlike impact of the modules on the glass. A powerful visual narrative that expands in a play of shadows and reflections.

Inspired by the carved shapes of quarries, canto fuses industrial aesthetics with the comfort and warmth of upholstered furniture. This simple, one-piece modular system goes beyond the limits of conventional design by combining the artistic and the industrial with the simplicity that characterises the work of the studio Mut. Accustomed to designs where soft, rounded silhouettes prevail, with Canto they demonstrate that they are also masters of angular forms. Each module seems to be sculpted directly from the rock of a quarry: a square block, solid and compact, sectioned by a curved cut to obtain two pieces that then overlap to create a backrest and seat. It is accompanied by a totemic small table. Almost a monolith, the table design also plays with angular and rounded shapes. Canto is a statement of MUT´s creative evolution and artistic maturity.

Pirographic curves through the magic of hand-tuftingGIRO’s design is based on a succession of mathematical curves which, thanks to a slight variation in their shapes, generate the optical illusion of a tube rolled up on itself. lts meandering textures and reliefs result in designs with movement that add a playful touch. GIRO rugs are handmade with virgin wool using the hand-tufting technique.

Inspired by the leg extension machines that can be found in any gym worldwide, Roll chair is as tricksy as Magritte’s famous pipe but the other way round because it is indeed a chair. In fact, it is a comfortable seat offering rest to those in need of a pause. No tough leg routine here. Through its unsual silhouette, we turn a common industrial object into a work of art. This is especially evident when stacked for the pile-up of cilinders and v-shaped legs create some sort of futuristic sculpture. Maybe our boldest chair so far.

Nautica is a swing that pays homage to one of the first pieces produced by Expormim in the 1970s. Originally conceived and manufactured in rattan, Nautica is also available in an aluminum version that is completely suitable for outdoor use, but still retains the spirit of the original design. The swing evokes the contrasts that occur in nature through a delicate play of shadows in movement that brings to mind the reflection of light as it strikes the waves of the sea. Strong and resistant, yet visually light, the swing can be perfectly integrated into any environment either suspended from a tree branch or through its self-supporting structure.

Inspired by the curves of the human body and the folds of the skin, the Michelin sofa collection is an ode to dynamism, color and sensuality. The Michelin system consists of two modules that can function independently or can be combined to create endless posibilities. A design for Missana.

With its enveloping shell-like backrest, Armadillo is a long-sought revision of a vintage rattan piece we all love: the papasan. But this is our radically free and joyfully postmodern version. A while after Nautica, we explore once again the fantastic world of rattan thanks to Expormim. We were eager to work with a material we have always been passionate about. Always digging into the endless possibilities of nature as a source of inspiration, Armadillo evokes the likeable shyness of the animal it refers to. Perfect for cuddling up.

The starting point of the collection was Ames’s exceptional fabrics used in the manufacture of hammocks. We have developed a new way of weaving by just modifying one thread in the weft, we managed to create different nuances of colour and levels of depth.
Our intention was designing an outdoor seating collection that would be upholstered with this fabrics. Coco is genuinely geometrical in its conception but thanks to its smooth edges and the fact that all seams are thoroughly hidden, we have softened its apparent harshness to make it welcoming, kind and comfortable.

In this workshop for known creative summer school Boisbuchet, in France, we will work with this ecological, vegetal wood-like fibre to produce a collection of outdoor furniture. We will focus on rattan’s properties and explore all the different ways and possibilities to work with it, pushing it to its limits. Our hands will be very busy in weaving and bending, twisting and twining. The natural environment of Boisbuchet will certainly be an inspiration to pour into our human-made design the seeming imperfection of nature with its organic and irregular shapes, shadows, reflects and textures. The results of this workshop were exhibited in the outdoors in the middle of nature in Boisbuchet.

Duplex is a small range of side tables inspired by the organic architecture of Mies van der Rohe and Frank Lloyd Wright. Duplex tables bring to mind waterfalls as the different superposed levels cascade one over another when put together. There is a common element to the whole collection: the top tray. It can add an extra level but it can also be detached and used as a container, laptop support or food tray. Once again we invite the user to take part in the design process because in the end it is him (or her) who decides how to
combine them. Playfulness and modularity are the key to success of this super contemporary collection.

Light and soft like a flower puffing up in the spring breeze. Petale is a small handy chair made of just stainless steel and weather-resistant textile. Nothing more, nothing less. Its sloping backrest stands as an invitation to lay back and relax. Suitable for outdoor use but also great indoors, it is a minimialist design that works fine in both elegant and casual environments. Plus it is very easy to handle thanks to its lightness and stackability. As subtle as the petal of a flower, as simple as a chair can be.

Absorbing inspiration from a trip to Mexico, MUT Design has created «Totem,» a modular stone sculpture that merges cultural references with urban functionality. Composed of dark stone cuboids in varying proportions, the design features precision-cut horizontal, vertical, or stepped bands that create a dynamic play of light and shadow, shifting with changes in light and perspective. Described by the designers as «dramatic monoliths,» Totem’s modularity allows it to transform into benches, tables, climbing structures, or simply stand as art. Intended for universities, it serves as both sculptural urban furniture and architectural decoration with structural versatility.

«Valencia Pavillon. The future is design»
For 2022 Valencia is nominated the World Capital of Design, as a teaser and to start presenting the essence, richness and creativity of the city, WDC Valencia 2022 commissioned to MUT Design the design for a traveling exhibition that had its take off during the Madrid Design Festival 2021. The base of the modules we created for this exhibition are semi cylinders, that can work together or separately, resulting in infinite compositions and a unique personality, that will keep changing, so every space adapts to our design and not the other way round.  The exhibition consists of five pavilions, hosting five categories: economy, crafts, design as the engine of economy, the boundary between art and design and technology, showing some few representatives of each category that are forming part of the valencian DNA.

Inspired by computer motherboards and the flamboyant spacecrafts of the Starwars saga, this very limited edition of sci-fi vases (up to 4 pieces at most) is a twist on the glass fusing technique and also the first collaboration under the aegis of Bruto. This process allows for fusing together two or more pieces of glass in a kiln until the glass melts. “We wanted to do something ultramodern here by lowering the temperature of the kiln, so glass wouldn’t melt completely. This way we obtain a bas-relief on the four different faces of the vase. We have a glass surface with a texture that we then paint in bright colours”, designer Alberto Sánchez explains. It is tactile as it is visual, and again, loudly industrial. For fellow designer Mireia Pérez, “it was really exciting because we were able to create something that looks digital without using a computer as we crafted the vases on site, at Sara Sorribes’s glass workshop in Valencia

The Das Haus – Interiors on Stage installation simulates a residential house at the fair imm Cologne. The fair constructs a 180-square-metre house designed according to the plans of a designer who is newly nominated every year. And in 2020 we were invited to design our dreamhouse for Das Haus. We titled our project “A la fresca” and took inspiration from traditional Mediterranean houses and way of living. Our intention was blurring the boundaries between exterior and interior, between architecture and nature. We wanted to explore how our life would change if we crossed that line. The space was divided into five different zones: the active area, the cleanliness area, the resting area, the kitchen and the patio which was the central element of the house and the space articulating the ensemble. As for the furniture, we collaborated with GAN, Preciosa Lighting, Diabla, Expormim or Sancal.

Beetle is a range of acoustic wall panels inspired by insects. Sancal had been working for some time with
a new technical material that could absorb background noise. They introduced us to this material and
asked us to design a new product that had to be functional, but also a piece of decoration. Beetle stands as
the perfect combination of practicality and design. We have always been attracted by the beauty of insects
and after visiting the entomology rooms of a natural science museum, we had the starting point for the
project. We then simplified beetles by turning them into five simple geometrical shapes that can be
combined to create many different compositions thank to the wide range of textiles, colours and shapes.

For the second part of our anniversary we created a artistic installation during Alcova Milano 2021. «Raíces»is the most artistic installation we designed so far. Two spaces : one outdoor and one indoor – a perfect fit as we have always tried to blur the border between in and out – connected by a giant root that guides the visitor throughout the space, to meet the past, present and future of the studio. The root twists and turns, intertwined both with the objects and the architecture of Alcova space.. And in between, a fine selection of the products they have designed alongthese past eleven years for brands such as LZF, Expormim, Sancal, ex.t, Pulpo, Diabla or Preciosa Lighting, among many others. To create this fantastic setting, MUT has partnered up with Valencian artist David Moreno.

Two products, an armchair and a three-seater sofa, were the germ of this fabulous seating collection.
Elegant and yet fun, its design is inspired by construction block games and the principle of “opposites
attraction”. Basic geometric shapes, like cubes and prisms, adapt to organic shapes. The harshness of the
base is counteracted by the soft touch of the seat and backrest, while the symmetry of the frame is
disrupted by the obvious asymmetry in the distribution of the cushions. The collection takes from color
blocking its bold bright flat colours such as royal blue, burgundy or forest green. Block collection is
perfect for public installations thanks to its small size and easy maintenance.

When the genius of Borges imagined the Library of Babel, he surely had in mind rows of wooden shelves with books neatly arranged. Tomo lamp, with its pure lines and geometrical simplicity, would be the transposition of this fantastic concept into contemporary design. Made of wood veneer with dimmable LED and a light-filtering diffuser, the suspension lamp replicates a set of volumes lit up from the inside, while the table lamp evokes the book spines usually displayed on the nightstands of book lovers.

With a tube pressed into the sphere, Plum has this evocative heart-shaped hollow we found in some fruits like plums or cherries. We wanted to create something unexpected and fun because tubes and bulbs are usually placed behind the lampshade and not at plain sight. Plum is what you get when you turn a lamp inside out, but it is more than that. Plum is a compelling solitaire of blown glass, soft to the touch, suave to the eyes, light as an air bubble floating in the air and just as round. A sophisticated pendant, a true Czech jewel.

A tribute to the age of connectivity and hiperlinks, Link rugs are all but cutting-edge technology. In fact, it is a hand-crafted collection based on the combination of hardwearing polypropylene ropes of different thickness to create a rich texture with distinctive levels and seductive bas-relieves. The use of varied ropes allows for the introduction of colour block details around the rim and in the overhanging loops. The palette ranges from muted oatmeal and greyish green to a bolder brick red. More than just an accessory, Link intends to be“the cherry on top of an outdoor setting”.

Variety is a pleasure. aspa, our first collaboration with the high-end German brand pulpo, is a simple study in geometry. An expression of pulpo’s love, which is also our own love, of glass in all its forms, this series of side tables comes in three different sizes and four different colours: grey, rose, yellow and satinato white. Each table brings together five cathedral glass panels stacked on top of each other and converging at the centre to create a delicate play of colour and incidence of light. The bubbles, streaks and the variation of colour and shape due to the particular production process add richness to this artsy and super contemporary collection.

Imagine an ink sketch, handmade, a single black stroke on the whitest sheet of paper. And then translate it into a real chair. What you get is Minima, a graphic design made tangible. Minima is a simple coffee chair, physically and visually tiny but extremely versatile. Thanks to its stackability and lightness, Minima is most suitable for public spaces but it can be easily fitted in domestic environments too. Our intention was to limit the materials used to a bare minimum. Its frame, made of two thin steel tubes, is a continuous line going up from the legs to shape the back and armrest while the wooden seat seems to be suspended by the middle of the insect-like structure reinforcing the general feeling of levity.

Ply, our first collection for GAN, is all about mesmerizing patterns, organic shapes and enveloping textures. This set of hand-tufted rugs is built by juxtaposing in the most exquisite way layers of tightly woven loops. But while traditional tufting loops are sheared at the final stage of the process, in Ply they remain uncut allowing for a denser, richer texture. When light falls upon it, the pattern comes alive with fetching optical effects and a strong feeling of movement. Entirely made of wool, it comes in three different shapes: round, round-square and hallway runner. Whimsical and edgy, Ply will make you fall through the rabbit hole and straight into Wonderland.

The Wallpaper* Handmade exhibition “Wellness & Wonder”, that took place in 2018 in Milan, was intended as a design spa for self-renewal and a sanctuary of contemporary craft. The collection of showcased accessories focused on lifestyle improvement. We partnered for the first time with Preciosa Lighting to design a table lamp which was a sculptural interpretation of chromotherapy, an ancient belief in the healing powers of colour and light. Chromo uses shapes that can be combined depending on the user’s need for colour and light. Made of metal and blown glass, Chromo works as a healing balm for anyone who seats near its glow.

The trophy for the Archiproducts Design Awards 2018 was a limited-edition object which mimicked the shape of its logo. We were asked to transmit the power of the brand-designer connection in a very visual way. Our inspiration was the Möbius strip, an out-of-this-world topological space with an endless artistic potential. In a Möbius strip, up becomes down, in becomes out, you walk and walk around its bidimensional surface and end up where you started. Its math is so complicated to grasp as it is fascinating. Like the famous strip, the trophy was conceived as a seamless object: a single metal slab crafted to reproduce the Award concept. The result is a game of light and shadows, of full and empty spaces, of glossy and raspy finishings. A shiny object of desire.

Nudo is a multifunctional wall-mounted or hanging shelving system featuring different bidimensional modules and an airy metal structure available in two elegant finishes: black and copper. It is a versatile object conceived to meet the requirements of contemporary interiors. Accessories such as mirrors, container trays and leather pockets can be added to the structure in order to embellish the composition and enhance its functionality. Nudo offers endless possibilities as it can work as a dividing panel, shelving system, towel hanger or vanity mirror depending on the user’s specific needs.

For ISO, we drew inspiration from isometric conversions and the possibility to represent 3D objects in two dimensions. ISO tiles put the human eye’s predefined perceptions to the test. It is a collection of 30 x 30 cm square tiles made of porcelain and reflecting the essence of traditional ceramics. Its geometrical design is the result of applying glazes and relief textures on a plain-coloured background. There are three different designs, each of them available in four attractive colours, all of them combinable at will. A
collection easy to mix and match offering multiple layouts.

As any conventional mirror, when you look into DUO, it shows your reflected image, but this collection of three sculptural mirrors, devised for the annual group exhibition curated by digital magazine SightUnseen, also accomplish a decorative function. Each mirror consists of two bent metal sheets: one is extremely polished while the other presents a hand-brushed matte surface. Each version is designed with a slight inclination, so it can be used either vertically or horizontally. DUO is available in three different finishes: black, gold and silver like Manhattan’s skyline at night.

Adjustability and an exquisite blend of materials. These are the main features of Arco. The seed of Arco, as its name points out, was the arch, a very simple geometrical shape yet so inspiring. Conceived as a piece of bathroom furniture with an integrated mirror and a shelving system hidden behind the glass, Arco can be easily turned into an elegant console just by changing the washbasin for a countertop. The structure supporting the sink and mirror and the water tap are available in two finishes: matt black and satin brass. Such an impeccable poise.

Lens is a family of table, floor and wall lamps defined by its flowing lines, no hard edges. With its shade of wood veneer, Lens enhances the warmth of the material. Its softness, elegant colour palette (gold, white, black or copper) and dim light reinforce this sense of warmth. It comes in two shade types, circular and elliptic, and different sizes. Wood shades embrace the circumference or ellipse of light which is void in the middle. Free from interruption, its radiant light traces the air. Perfectly symmetrical, Lens is sleek, soothing and appealing in every version.

X-Stool is smart as it is simple. If you are the type of person who always ends up with a couple of spare screws and the gut feeling something is not working, then X-Stool is what you were looking for. Just two pieces, delivered in a flat pack, no tools or extra components required. Composed of two identical halves, all that is needed to assemble it is turning one of the pieces, slot it into the other and ta-da!, your X-Stool is securely clasped and ready to use. X-Stool is soft in the angles, sculptural and it is served in a wide range of colours. An iconic piece with an added value: it is light and stackable. A win-win.

Twins collection was born as two “genetically similar” armchairs, both featuring a high-resistance tube aluminium frame and upholstered curved backs. Our idea was delivering a couple of non-identical twin chairs with a strong personality. This is why they can work together or separately. The “male” sibling is taller and has a more squared structure; the “female” is lower and its shape is softer. While one looks pleasant and feminine, the other is defined by its blunt masculine presence. The success of this pair led us to develop a whole family of products. Thus we took their primitive DNA and created a loveseat, a double chaise longue and a footstool. A wide variety of technical outdoor fabrics allow for a great deal of
customization options. Through the years Twins has become one of our most iconic and beloved collections.

NUC, meaning ‘knot’ in Catalan, is a tile collection for the top-of-the-range décor brand Harmony Inspire by Peronda. NUC features mesh-mounted mosaics formed by simple 4.5 cm glass tesserae. This time we took inspiration from the Gestalt principles. According to these, the mind has an innate disposition to perceive patterns in the stimulus based on certain rules. This signature wall tile is therefore conceived as a product that confers equal importance to all its elements. Even the joints, usually an insignificant detail,
become relevant to the final effect. The arrangement of the square tiles, intentionally shifted, causes the optical illusion of constant movement and evokes the patterns of fishing nets and mesh fabrics.

Loop is a compact table lamp consisting of two concentric ellipses looping around an opaque LED lens which is set into a metallic base. The first ellipse, made of wood veneer, works as a diffuser while the second ellipse, made of metal, is not just decorative, but also acts as a useful handle. In a style reminiscent of the classic roller coaster vertical loop or the old tracks for racing toy cars, Loop has a frolicsome shape and the most stylish colour palette. Wood veneer comes in ivory white and natural beech that can be combined with three metal finishes, matt black, black nickel and gold. Full of character, Loop greets every space with a beaming smile.
