Inspired by the principles of Gestalt psychology
NUC, meaning ‘knot’ in Catalan, consists of a meshed mosaic composed of simple square tiles made of glass 4.5 centimeters thick.
This new design, is based upon the principle of figure-ground organization. In this specific case, the main figure or element would be the tile while the junction would work as background. But when boundaries become blurred and doubts arise on what we really perceive, it is our will and our own experience what help us decide on the final visual perception. What do we see? Is it a simple square tile or a moving joint drawing a graphic design? Perception changes depending on the user, but it still remains valid.
The arrangement of the square tiles, intentionally shifted, causes this illusion making possible for the joint to create a design in constant movement and evoking the patterns of fishing nets and mesh fabrics. This new auteur tiling tries to give the same relevance to each of the elements, including the joints which are granted for the first time a lead role in the composition.
